How do I configure my Outlook Express to work with outerHOST's email service?

Follow these instructions on how to configure Outlook Express 6 for use with the outerHOST mail system.

When opening Outlook Express 6, you will see the following splash graphic:

Upon first launch of Outlook Express, you may see the following dialog box:

If you see this prompt, make sure the checkbox is checked and click 'Yes'.

If Outlook Express is not configured, you will be guided through the setup wizard, which looks like this:

Enter your full name (as you would like others to see it) using formal capitalization and spacing. Click 'Next'.

Enter your full e-mail address as assigned to you by an outerHOST customer service representative.
andrew.smith@outerhost.com will be used as the example in the rest of this tutorial.

Click 'Next'.

In the drop-down menu that reads "My incoming mail server is a ___ server," select the IMAP option.
Then proceed filling in both incoming and outgoing mail servers with the following: mail.outerhost.net

Click 'Next'.

Type the full e-mail address again (it may be partially filled out for you) in the "Account name" text box.
If you would like your password to be remembered by Outlook Express, type it here and check the "Remember password" checkbox.
Leave the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" checkbox unchecked.

Click 'Next'.

Click 'Finish'.

You may be prompted to download folders by a window that looks like this:

Click 'Yes'. Wait for the process to finish, make any changes to the folders you would like to see, then click 'OK' as shown below.

Click the 'Tools' menu at the top of Outlook Express, and click Accounts.

Make sure the 'Mail' tab at the top of the new window is selected, click the 'mail.outerhost.net' account if it is not already selected, and click 'Properties'.

Click the 'Servers' tab at the top of the new window, and check the "My server requires authentication' checkbox.

Click the 'Advanced' tab. Change the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP)" port to 29.

Click 'OK' then 'Close'.

You now have use of your outerHOST mailbox by clicking the Inbox folder under your new folder.
